Note on Marriage

Note on Husband: Thomas Bertram ALLOTT

Known as Uncle Bert. Family home was 13 Gerard Road, Rotherham

The relationship between Uncle Bert and Mabel Chandler (Ward) is a bit of an unknown.

He became attached to the family when he was a young man and the suspicion is that he had a thing for Mabel.

Did they have an affair? Presumably her husband Fred was well aware of it if they did.

He was part of a large family and his father owned a steelworks or similar in Rotherham.

He appeared to be rich and apparently bought a TV for Mabel on which they watched the coronation.

In later years he married Mabel some years after she was widowed.

After her death he lived with Alan Chandler (Mabel's son) and in return left him the house - although the rest of the money apparently went to Eric.

It would seem that he was quite bad tempered in later years - although that may have just been family falling out.

Note on Wife: Mabel Lillian Pickering WARD

Her business was at 31 Toll Gavel
