During the WW2 John Mein and my grandmother lived in one of two houses in the grounds of the Natural History Museum in Kensington where he worked.

There was an air-raid shelter underneath it, he would take all of us down there, until it was bombed, so then we had to go to Gloucester Road tube station which was very deep under ground.

I had to sleep on the steps with my sister as there was no room on the platform.

When the air-raid was over Jock ( as we called him ) would come and get us, very nice man.
